Communication Is Key!

One of the most prevalent issues for remote bookkeepers is getting in touch with their clients when they need critical information.

Unlike in-house bookkeepers, who can merely go to the office of their boss or a specific department to retrieve the information they need to do their jobs, remote bookkeepers don't have that luxury. There can be an entire continent between them and their clients, and any hindrance in receiving that information can result in the bookkeeper being unable to do their job. That can have a cascading effect that cripples the business as a whole, so having ways to easily communicate and pass information along to one another is essential for remote bookkeepers and their clients.

One solution to remedy this is to take advantage of some of the cloud services that can be found. Spreadsheets with Google can be used to pass along questions to one another, alerting select individuals through comments. Likewise, Google Drive can allow remote bookkeepers to access the files stored on the system with their clients dictating just how much access they have.

Another is to set up a system such as a weekly consultation. It can range from a 30-minute discussion or just a few highlighted topics that came up and need to be addressed. Zoom and Skype are two options for doing so, making it possible for video conferences.

Whatever means you choose to use, having a method of easily available communication is necessary for both parties to thrive and should be a priority.
